Exhibition Claremont House Hotel

I have a few paintings on show in a mixed exhibition at The Claremont House Hotel at the moment. The show has a good mixture of styles and the work benefits enormously from the excellent surroundings provided by the Hotel. Masha Shubina

Just came across this show by Masha Shubina and it looks like it might be interesting. She's a painter who produces paintings of herself and then posts them on Dating sites. She has an exhibition of her paintings and some of the webpages from the dating sites at the Matthew Brown Gallery. If you're in London give it a shot and let me know what you think!

The Tate Triennial 2006

Just read a review of this show on the guardian website and if you're thinking of going I suspect its worth a read as you may be wasting your time. I can't comment on the show myself as I haven't seen it but this review tells me what I need to know. I'll use my money to buy more canvas instead!What I can comment on though is this modern obsession by curators to force artists to fit into a view of the world they construct. I'm talking about themed art shows here. I'm sick to death of receiving invitations to shows entitled "Black to White" etc. Shoe horning artists into shows this way distorts their efforts at best and sometimes as seems the case in this show actually detracts from the artists and their work.Whatever happened to the open exhibition where all you needed to do was paint what you wanted to paint and hope you got selected. I know the Royal Academy Summer Show (Christ I've just noticed even this has a theme these days!) still exists but where are all the rest.The Tate Triennial 2006 (don't let me put you off)

Striking

This is the first large scale piece from the formal abstract expressionism style of work. Its called Striking because thats how a friend described it when he first saw it and I thought that was a perfect way to respond to a painting as the artist can take it as a compliment or not depending on how paranoid they are!

Climate change

OK so this isn't art or painting but its the single most important issue today so you'll have to forgive me. There's a chance to help the scientists put together a prediction model so we'll know sooner how bad things are going to be. All you need to do is go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/climatechange and follow the instructions. Do it, don't think about it!
